The Lync server requires that certificates meet its specifications not all public CAs do so. Lync uses your organization’s PKI (public key infrastructure) or a public CA (certification authority) to issue certificates for the private keys and session keys that are used to encrypt and decrypt information that’s sent over TLS connections, which helps prevent man-in-the-middle attacks and eavesdropping.
